John 12:25-26 “Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.”
During our prayers, we are told to make our requests known to God (Philippians 4:6). The Lord wants to hear from us and wants us to lean on Him. Here is another thought: during these prayers, what if we also asked God what we can do for Him with the intention of submitting ourselves to His will? Not asking this from a place of pride thinking that we are capable of fulfilling the will of God, but a place of submission that we will do whatever He asks.
What can I do for You Lord? I asked this question this week and it caused what felt like a trembling in my bones.
What is He going to ask me? What if it’s something I don’t want to do? What if it’s not easy? What if I can’t do it or will fail trying? What if I let Him down? Where would it all go?
If I am to be a servant of the Master, I should be ready and willing to do whatever He asks of me. I should ask Him what He wants me to do next. I should ask Him what He wants me to learn and understand from all this. I should be a servant of His will. I would never want the Lord Jesus to say of me that I called him “Lord, Lord” and did not do what He told me to (Luke 6:46).
As Christians, can we live every day asking what the Lord would have us to do next? Can we allow ourselves to ask God to do whatever He wants with our lives rather than giving Him a shortlist of options we’d like? Can we ask the Lord what we can do for Him?
