Born Again to a Living Hope

1 Peter 1:3-5 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

As followers of the Lord, we understand the terminology born again, but we often forget that others do not understand this expression. How can one be born again? They only know to consider that this is a physical birth, rather than a spiritual rebirth. We are spiritually reborn from darkness into God’s light with a living hope. This hope isn’t like hoping something works out for good, but something that is alive within us, something that is forward looking to the salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

As followers of the Lord are born again spiritually, our hearts should not be focused on the material wealth and pleasures of this world. The treasures of earth will rust and fade away. We have been reborn, made new, a holy nation. We are to set our hearts and mind on the Lord. We ought to invest ourselves in Him knowing that He is keeping an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading for us. This is better than anything that can be stored up on earth. No amount of earthly treasure can compare to being united with Christ and living in His eternal glory.

So if you have been born again, consider if you are investing in the heavenly future or are you investing in the earthly now?
