Continue Steadfastly in Prayer
Colossians 4:2 “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.”
Praying is such a treasure in our walk with the Lord. To be able to kneel down and confess our wrongdoings to Him or to be able to stand up with open arms in praise of His majesty is unlike other anything else in this world. Some prayers can be quiet reflections, others can be emotional with repentance, others can be joyful because of answered prayers. Paul encourages us to continue steadfastly in prayer. Another translation reads “continue earnestly”. Let your heart be earnestly poured out with the Lord for He cares for you. He wants that time with you.
We are also reminded to be watchful in our prayers. Let them be purposeful and try to keep our mind from drifting away into earthly distractions. Guard your mind as you pray so that the Lord has 100% of your attention and focus. I’ll be the first to admit that my own mind will tend to wander towards the beginning of my prayer time and this is when I have to especially focus on my conversation with the Lord.
We are also reminded to be watchful in it with thanksgiving. It is easy to go to the Lord with a number of burdens on our heart, questions, or requests, but we mustn’t forget the mercies of our Lord and His greatness. Take the time every day to give Him the thanks and praise that He is due.
