Fulfill Your Ministry
2 Timothy 4:3-5 “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths. As for you, always be steady, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”
In times past and in present times, people have accumulated for themselves people who will make them feel good. Is that not what we all want all the time is to feel good? So people then seek out teachers who will say things that appeal to their own interests whether that be socially, politically, morally, and so on. The Word of God becomes secondary to their own interests.
We are to be aware of this and take note of when people turn away from sound truth. We should try to encourage one another in sound doctrine to stay the course in our Christian faith. The apostle Paul says to be always steady and endure the suffering. He states this as if to say that there will be suffering to endure, be ready for it. Be steady in the faith and don’t drift off course.
Not only that, he urges to do the work of an evangelist and fulfill our ministry. We all have a calling to do and that is to share the Gospel with others. Sometimes we may treat the time as unlimited and we’ll evangelize another day. Sometimes we may assume that someone else will sow and reap in someone else’s life. Yet, we know that is also our job to do the work of an evangelist rather than sitting on the sidelines. If there’s an opportunity to share the love of Christ, let us take it up. If we are called to suffer for Christ’s sake, let us remind ourselves to endure it with joy, patience, and be steady in our faith.
