Hold Fast
Revelation 2:25 “Only hold fast what you have until I come.”
The Lord Jesus tells the apostle John that the church of Thyatira needs to hold fast to what they have until He comes. Applying this verse to our own walk of faith, we too must hold fast to the faith that we have in Christ. We should not discard it for the hollow pleasures of the world. The church of Thyatira was being tempted to chase false doctrines of sexual immorality and the Lord scolded them for this.
If we allow sinful passions to rule our hearts and minds, then we will spend our lives attempting to satiate these passions to no end. There will never be enough of the empty pleasures of the world. We will keep wanting and needing more, but our hearts will never find rest. For those of us who have faith, we must hold onto it. We must cling to the Lord because we know that the offerings of the world are empty. Let us keep our minds on things above and hold onto our refuge, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 6:15-18 “What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.”
