Saving to the Uttermost
Hebrews 7:24-28 “But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people's, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.”
Our High Priest, the Lord Jesus, is unchanging and unending. He, unlike other human priests, is perfect while able to have compassion on us because He too was subject to temptation. Though He never sinned, He endured and rejected the temptations that we have been subjected to and often give into. Yet, Jesus was holy and separate from sinners. His life was lived perfectly, with humility, with love, and forgiveness. His sacrifice was not an imperfect sacrifice that needed to be repeated daily, but a single perfect sacrifice of Himself for our sins. He fulfilled the Old Testament law like no one else could and ushered in the new covenant. As a result, He has been exalted higher than the heavens and demonstrated why we need Him because He has done what we could not and He has sacrificed Himself on our behalf.
Those who come to God through Jesus are able to be saved from their sins. Saved to the uttermost. No matter the blot or stain on your life. No matter the guilt or baggage that you hold onto. No matter the mistakes and sins you hide away, Christ knows them and He is ready to forgive them. Are you willing to approach the Him, accept His sacrifice on your behalf, and ask for the forgiveness of your sins?
