Hope for Tomorrow
John 11:25-27 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”
Martha wishes that Jesus had come sooner so that her brother would not have died. In earlier events, Jesus had raised others from the dead showing His power over death, but still people like Martha thought that Jesus needed to act within the confines of human life. Jesus turns human understanding on its head by announcing that He is the resurrection and the life.
He not only encouraged Martha to believe in His power over life and death, but He encourages to believe in Him for eternal life. Jesus did not limit this message of resurrection and life to Martha, but demonstrated it to all through His own death and resurrection. He could willingly die for us because He knew that He was, is, and would be triumphant over death.
Because Christ is the resurrection and the life, we can have hope for today and hope for tomorrow. By believing in Christ, we can know that He will raise us up just as He Himself was raised from the dead on the third day.
Glory to God. Glory to God. Glory to God.
