Prayers for Healing
James 5:13-18 “Is any one among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects. Eli′jah was a man of like nature with ourselves and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth its fruit.”
The Lord our God is the great physician. He knows all our needs. He knows how we suffer. He knows what ails our bodies. Sometimes these afflictions can be to draw us closer to God so that we cling to Him. This can come from the realization that human doctors don’t have all the answers and the one who controls all things is our Holy God.
We should remember that all things are possible through God. We should not limit Him and believe that miracles do not happen anymore or that they don’t happen to the scale they used to happen. Have faith! When we ask in His name and wish to bring Him glory and not ourselves, wondrous things can happen (John 14:12-14).
When we confess our sins, confess to one another, pray over one another, anoint one another with oil, and lift up our prayers to the Lord, we are told that the prayer of faith will save the sick man. The prayer of the righteous has great power in its effects. The Lord will forgive sins and heal.
While it may not always be the Lord’s will to heal our sicknesses as He may wish us to draw closer to Him, we should still approach the Lord through prayer with faith that He can save us, He can heal us, He can do all things.
