Renewed Day by Day
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 “So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
Do not lose heart that we are growing older, weaker, more forgetful, and more tired as the days and years progress. Death has become a part of our world since the fall and it is appointed to men once to die, that then the judgment comes (Hebrews 9:27).
Instead of looking for the elixir of youth, the anti-aging serum, the fountain of youth, or some other empty promise of reverse the aging process on our external bodies, choose to drink from the wellspring of life and be renewed daily in the Lord. Our spirits can be renewed anew each day. Our faith and devotion to the Lord can grow more and more each day and shine in a vibrantly in this dark world if we but focus on renewing our inner-self instead of our external self. Is this not the most important part of us, our hearts?
1 Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.’”
Let us challenge our thinking to focus on how our hearts look before the Lord. Let us focus on the unseen things, not the externally visible, yet transient things. For the unseen things are gloriously eternal and unfading, so let us focus on Christ and Him crucified. Let us daily refocus and renew our minds in Christ.
