Search Me
Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!”
What a request by David to the Lord. He was so confident that his own heart, thoughts, and actions were honorable to the Lord that he asked Him to search his heart. May we all strive to live a life so honorable before the Lord that we can ask Him to inspect us with confidence that we have been living for Him.
Another perspective to this request is that David is asking the Lord to search out his heart, test him, and know all his thoughts for anything that could be grievous to the Lord and correct him. I knew that I wanted to take ask this of the Lord in prayer, but I approached it with caution. For the Lord can see all of my actions, He already knows the desires of my heart, and He can hear my thoughts as if spoken aloud. If I am asking the Lord to search me for anything that grieves His heart, I should be fully prepared for the conviction of the Holy Spirit when He points out what needs to be corrected. Am I ready to be corrected? Am I ready to try and change things that I’m doing poorly? Am I ready to answer His call and do as He asks?
Psalm 139:17 “How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
How great is the sum of them!” May the Lord share His thoughts with me, help me to draw closer, and lead me in the Way everlasting.
