The Lord is Good
Nahum 1:7 “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows those who take refuge in Him.”
The other day I was in someone’s home and I saw a decorative sign which said “God is good all the time”. This caused me to ponder the constant goodness of the Lord. No matter what wars breakout, no matter how evil people choose to be, no matter how hurtful people are to one another, God is still good. If humanity chooses evil, this does not somehow make God guilty by association with us as our Creator. We choose to do evil, but God is good.
Consider there are times in our lives when nothing seems to go right: people say hurtful things to us, work is time consuming and difficult, we miss opportunities, we are misunderstood, we have disagreements with those we love, we lash out, and so on. Despite all these things, God is good. Though we and others might make poor choices with our words and actions, God is good and He is calling us to something better.
Even in traumatic circumstances of violence, loss, heartbreak, and pain, it was not God who inflicted the trauma. But He is good and He wants to be our stronghold in our day of trouble. He is calling us out of the darkness to come into the light of His love. He wants us to trust in Him. For the Lord is good even when nothing else in life seems good.
