When Will the Bad Things Stop?

1 John 3:8 “Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.”

We have previously covered why do bad things happen and why does God allow bad things to happen. A follow up question that many might wonder is when will all of the bad things stop? The promotion of evil seems to be everywhere in our world, how much longer does this have to keep going on?

Humanity has chosen the knowledge of evil, has chosen to practice evil, and the Lord has patiently called for us to repent, here in 1 John we can see that the reason Jesus Christ appeared to us was to destroy the works of the devil. He came to conquer sin because we as humans could not. He came to be victorious over evil and death, and to give new life to His children.

1 Peter 2:24 “He himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.”

So do not be discouraged that sin appears to abound everywhere, the Son of God has come to destroy the works of the devil. Jesus has already proven his victory over sin by taking our sins in His body upon the cross. He has already proven his victory over death by resurrecting three days later. He has already proven his divinity many times, but also with His glorious ascension. What the devil intended for evil, God had intended for good. Though we have fallen short of God’s glory with our sin, God has thrown us a lifeline of grace, mercy, and forgiveness if we but take it and hold on. In the end, there will be no more sin and the final victory belongs to the Lord. Take heart.

1 John 5:4 “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.”
