Who Is This?
Hebrews 1:2-4 - But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed the Heir of all things, through whom also He created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name He has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
I have stood in the presence of presidents, royalty, and celebrities. I have looked on them with confidence and admiration, thankful for the opportunities. Their role is elevated to mine, but their humanity is equal to mine.
But who is this Son of God? Who is this in whose presence I tremble? Who is this who commands the wind and the waves and they obey? Who is this for whom all nature and heaven sings?
For the Father has exalted Him to glory above all. Remarkably, this majestic and humble Son of God wishes others to share in His reign.
Who is this Son of God whose very presence pierces the recesses of my soul? Whose very power makes the rulers, the followers, the oppressed, and the afflicted fall before Him? Whose knowledge reveals all hidden secrets? Whose radiance enlightens those before Him to comprehend their own unworthiness?
Who is this that I dare not touch, not even His feet? Who is this I dare not raise my eyes to lest I be blinded like Saul?
Who is this co-eternal Son of God? It is Jesus Christ the Lord.
But I do dare to prostrate myself before Him. Words fail me as I fall into silence. I can never know Him in His fullness, yet He knows all of me. I can never seize Him within my grasp, but His love has taken hold of me. Do I know how to truly love Him? How can I be like Him?
I am bold enough to approach the throne of grace, but now I am in fearful awe in His presence. I am afraid that I haven’t even begun to repent as I should. How do I rid myself of all these worldly ways? How can I begin to pray before the King of kings and the Lord of lords? Sinner that I am, what other words can I say than these?
“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me.”
