Will God Forgive Me?
Psalm 103:11-13 “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does He remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.”
As someone who has a multitude of sins, who rejected God’s existence, who even raised my finger to accuse God for allowing evil to exist, the question of whether God would forgive me weighed heavy on my soul as I began to seek the Lord. Why should He forgive me? Why would He want me in His kingdom? I am not worthy of forgiveness or mercy because I rejected Him before and now I am looking for Him. By His grace, my heart was broken and I begged for His forgiveness and asked that if He would have me, I am His.
Throughout the Word of God there are passages which remind us of God’s love, His patience towards us, and His willingness to forgive us if we but turn to Him. Psalm 103 is so beautiful how it describes how far God will separate our sins from us if we but fear Him. As far as the east is from the west. Those two directions have an immeasurable distance between them and when we, as followers of the Lord, are joined with Him, all of our sins will be thrown as far away from us as the east is from the west. We won’t be able to see them or be tormented by them any longer. The guilt and the shame of our evil deeds will be washed away. This is made possible through the sacrifice of Christ as He took our sins upon Himself and we would bear the sins no longer.
So if you are doubting the depth of God’s love, His compassion, and His willingness to forgive your sins, don’t doubt that.
